What is an LEI code?
An LEI code is an alpha-numeric code that uniquely identifies legal entities.
We have made it fast and easy for you to order an LEI code by automating the entire process. We obtain your company information directly from the local company register, and all you have to do is fill in your company name and your personal information.
If your company is owned by another company, we may ask a couple of questions about the ownership structure. This is done to ensure that we have the correct company data.
You can get an LEI code in four simple steps:
You will get a confirmation of your LEI order as soon as it’s done. It usually takes 0-2 business days until you receive your LEI code by email from us.
If your company doesn’t have a business number, you can still get an LEI code. The application process is the same, but you have to fill in the company's name, address, and registration date yourself. Then you have to upload a document that verifies the company legal name and current address.
Please remember that the company’s legal name and current address must appear on the document.
You can choose between three different validity periods at Global FinReg:
You get the cheapest LEI code by choosing a validity period of five years. You can see our LEI code prices here.
Alternatively, you can choose automatic renewal: this means that we will renew your code once a year and deduct the amount from your card. This way, you know that you always have an active LEI code, and you don’t have to do anything yourself. If we have any questions along the way, we will contact you.
Whether you choose a specific validity period or sign up for automatic renewal, we maintain and update your company data, so your LEI-code is always valid.
You can pay for your LEI code by credit or debit card, MobilePay, or via a bank transfer. If you prefer to receive an invoice, please contact our customer services team by phone or email and inform us of your desired validity period.
The legislation behind LEI codes came into effect on January 3, 2018. Since then, having an LEI code has been a legal requirement for all companies participating in financial transactions.
LEI codes make it possible to uniquely identify companies and other legal entities and exist to further transparency and stability in the financial markets. The global LEI system also plays a major role in risk and fraud management. You can read more in our article, ‘The global LEI system.’
